The Bay Area Derailleurs (BAD) began about three months ago in Oakland. One of the founders of The Sprockettes moved from Portland, OR to San Francisco and decided to start up a similar bike dance group in The Bay Area. The group has performed at the Maker Fair and the ArtSF art bike show, see the video here of their performance. Next they are traveling to Portland to perform at the Sprockettes Invitational Bike Bash June 28th.

The ladies use bike wheels on poles and bike tubes as props. They are also incorporating mini bmx bikes with wicks attached so they can be set on fire! A couple of dancers have experience fire dancing which will premiere in Portland.

The group meets twice a week for about three hours to practice, as well as on some weekends to paint stencils they have created, decorate bikes and other projects. They are a very dedicated group who work hard to make sure their performances are high caliber. Keep an eye out on their myspace calendar for future events. They are scheduled to perform at 111 Minna in San Francisco July 25 and possibly at the Bicycle Film Festival July 23-26.
